And like true wor...Shelley's stuff was intense. And like true works of art, you could listen to it over and over. It was beautifully crafted. Of course the records couldn't substitute for seeing him -- he was also an excellent mime. He had a great bit on eating popcorn in a movie theater. Talking about laughing hard, some of these greats actually orchestrated their nightclub 45 minutes, or concert 90 minutes to have some lulls, so that people wouldn't get "laugh face" and be in physical pain. Then again, some comics see someone in the audience helplessly in hysterics and go for the kill. I remember one woman having to flee to the ladies room because she couldn't control her laughter or anything else. To the comics who actually came down off the stage to make faces and ad-lib her into leaving her (wet) seat, this was a major triumph. The audience was cheering and applauding. I'll give credit where it's due; it was an animated Aussie team called Los Trios Ringbarkus, and they broke up a short time later. Maybe because they were too deadly to keep getting booked. Maybe some venues had to replace soaked chairs.
