You got a lot of facts wrong and pontificated in ways that are your opinions and absolutely not what Will was thinking.

Yes, illegal downloading hurt the industry, but you know what hurt the industry more? Itself. It refused to even acknowledge downloadable music with Columbia and EMI execs calling it a fad, refused to try to use it as a paid way for fans to get music, they thought for sure the problem would go away and brought it on themselves. Will wasn't angry as much as "free" music but he knew digital was going to be huge as early as 1997 but the labels and the industrial music complex that pays artist shit and takes 90%+ of the profits going to execs and middle managers didn't want to end their outdated system.

Will had suffered, as many of us creatives, with depression, anxiety, and feelings of being weird where people are supposed to be normal. Amy Grant, also suffering from depression and thoughts of suicide even back when she was married to her asshole husband was his life preserver at times, as were others in his life.

As anyone who's suicidal at times knows, it's sometimes not enough, the pain is too much to bear. You almost paint it like it was "all those whippersnappers and they're downloading" which is both laughable but also sad because it's so far off the mark.

He is missed, and your post missed the mark.Derek Wellsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13393846.post-37725204119664677682010-11-24T03:01:45.313-08:002010-11-24T03:01:45.313-08:00Have to ask...how much of this is conjecture on th...Have to ask...how much of this is conjecture on the author's part? Yes, the quotes can likely be attributed to him, but, by accounts, he had a constant stream of work.

Some other people on message boards claim he 'sought, and received, treatment for depression' over the years, not that his topical feelings about the music business were what did him in.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13393846.post-39102675715843178642010-05-23T18:50:18.044-07:002010-05-23T18:50:18.044-07:00Will's debut album was created in his home stu...Will's debut album was created in his home studio on Hobbs Road in Nashville, not in Anniston, AL. His second album was cut in his home studio in Franklin, TN. He had been divorced for a couple of years by the time of his death.JWnoreply@blogger.com
